Art Of Noise - Beatbox, 1984 [Diversion One edit, Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise?]
Quintessential, artsy '80s fusion of the more electronic side of New Wave and that early Brit movement away from guitars (to synthesizers and racks) that gave birth to so many later progressions i.e. Tim Simenon's Bomb the Bass, Coldcut sound collages, and that whole heavy beats club sound that sprang up courtesy Art of Noise. I prefer the Diversion One edit to the original that appears on Into Battle With the Art of Noise because you get the beautiful piano solo on the outro. I like all versions of "Beat Box," though. Long time favorite. And "Close (To the Edit)" is always a good follow-up listen. That's how we always played the record when we were kids if we were playing the 45.
