Tanis

What is Tanis?

That's the mystery at the heart of this completely addicting Serial-esque docudrama. While host Nic Silver's habit of parroting his subjects' words back at them to elicit further response grates on me (it's very "journalism 101"), I still find myself engrossed in the overarching conspiracy, eagerly gobbling up the clues as each new layer is peeled away. More than just a good ol' campfire mystery tale, "Tanis" is also a love letter to the genre of mystery in itself, a hat-tip to the pre-internet age of simply not knowing. It's exhilarating and also a bit disconcerting-- to be honest, I'm still not 100% sure whether the subject is real or fictional. And that only adds to the immersive thrill.
