Fellini's circus conceit

I always thought of Federico Fellini's usage of the circus conceit as a major part of his film ouevre and vision. La Strada is one of those transitional Fellini films that seems to go back and forth crossing the bridge between post-neorealist struggle and a sort of dreamlike landscape encountered in later works like 8 1/2 (Otto e Mezzo), which also had some allusion to the circus. There's another Fellini work I haven't seen yet called The Clowns (1970). Giuleta Masina was really good in La Strada, as was Anthony Quinn.
