If you’ve pawed through a copy of the New Yorker in the past 15 years, you’ve most likely seen Drew Dernavich’s work in the form of the magazine's famous comics. His cartoons characteristically feature woodcut-style drawings and an iconic capital “D” lowercase “d” block-letter signature. The keen cartoonist extended his wit beyond the single-panel format with a new foray into picture books: In February, he published It’s Not Easy Being Number Three, a tale about a number with an identity crisis. Drew spoke to Milq about why he loves Jim Gaffigan's "Hot Pockets" routine, the outsider alphabet art of Sister Corita Kent, and the great Beastie Boys couplet that rhymes “pannenkoeken" with "soft-spoken." Check out Drew’s new book here, and follow him on Instagram and Twitter.
