Patti Smith A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
I didn't come up with the word transcendent to describe this performance at the Nobel ceremony where Dylan was awarded the prize for literature, and I can't explain it better than the New Yorker article (google it!) that does, but I found this to be a bone cathartic performance given the weight of the occasion and the weightier feel of these times. Sure, she lost her place in the lyrics, but by that time people in the audience were already crying with the emotion she put into it as she got inside this timeless and timely song. "I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow. I met one man who was wounded in love. I met another man who was wounded in hatred. And it's a hard rain's gonna fall."
